Rally Report from Deaf campers South West (DCSW) – October 2023

October – Not joking!
We had a Summer Weekend with a great temperature
of 24°c in this month of October!

Fox & Goose Campsite
Lovely place-quiet and good food in the pub.
Turning camper from the road is so difficult due to a sharp bend!
They were advised to drive a bit and then turned so
that village can be reached without any problems,
because the entrance from/to the road is really tight.

Beer in the evening
Crowd-pleasing grub, drink plus camping
with a great welcoming and dog-friendly.

Hook
On Friday some of them took an hour for a walk to the town of Hook,
they spotted some rare species of fungi grow there.

Cafe at Hook
Rested to have some light lunches.

Saturday Morning


Many of them went to Odiham along the canal.
In 1792 the canal was cut through the outer bailey,
now the waterside enhanced for wildlife.

Castle beside the canal
There was an old building Odiham Castle.
The dressed stone was taken, leaving the flint stones core we see today.
Inside spiral stairs caused a plane of weakness and some walls collapsed.

Greywell Tunnel
We saw the tunnel that closed due the collapsed in 1932
and there were no attempts to revive the tunnel as commercial trade to Basingstoke.
It had already creased by the turn of the century – lorries transport instead.

Bat Populations
The tunnel now used for the wildlife as excellent conditions for hibernating bats.

Open Meeting

We all gained together to have an open meeting
with some positive feedback, and we are looking forward
into a new next 2024 events.

Sunday
Many are left the site in the afternoon
after they had their roast dinner at the pub campsite.

New Year’s Celebration
We might have the event to celebrate
the New Year Party, you will be informed asap.
