DCCCuk Annual Holiday at

Porthmadog, North Wales.

The week’s weather was mixed (mostly sunny spell), where we had
the whole rally field for ourselves and was very spacious.

Snowdonia National Park
Covering a total of 823 square miles, Snowdonia is Wales’ largest National Park.
Home to over 26,000 people, and only one our DCCCuk president, William Rowley was visited with us.

Our vision for Wales
From castles and museums through to our world recognised beaches.
Many of  our DCCCuk members were visited several places of interest from
the landscapes to picturesque villages and historic castles, there are plenty of spots.

Gelert – Beddgelert Grave
According to legend, the stone monument in the field marks the resting place of ‘Gelert’,
the faithful hound of the medieval Welsh Prince Llewelyn the Great inBeddgelert.”It was about his dog that saw the infant’s cot empty,
the bedclothes and floor covered with blood for his son missing.
The father, Llewelyn plunged his sword into the hound’s side, thinking it had killed his son.
The dog’s dying yell was answered by a child’s cry.
Llewelyn searched and discovered his boy unharmed,
but nearby lay the body of a mighty wolf which Gelert killed the wolf to save a son.
The Prince Liewelyn filled with remorse is said never to have smiled again. He buried Gelert here”.

Portmeirion Village
Portmeirion is an enchanting Italianate style village on the coast of North Wales,
they were browsed 2-3 hours and viewed the River Dwyryd.
It was 3miles away from our campsite.

Mount Snowdon
Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, at an elevation of 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) above sea level,
and the highest point in the British Isles outside the Scottish Highlands. It is located in Snowdonia National Park.

Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways
The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways stretch for 40 miles through the glorious Snowdonia National Park.
They went on The Welsh Highland Railway is the UK’s longest heritage railway and runs for 25 miles
from Caernarfon where trains start from beneath the castle walls for the journey to Porthmadog.

Black Rock Sand Beach
Even though the name suggests a dark beach,
They won’t see much in the way of blackness.
Black Rock Sands is an open, wide beach with fine sands,
just down the road from our campsite.

Llechwedd Deep Mine
Some of them went to discover the story of state  with some amazing unique tour.
The clock will turn back 160 years as you travel 500 feet underground, where
they spend approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes soaking up all there is
to know about Llechwedd’s fascinating past!
When they went back to campsite that they learnt about Llechweed aboard our underground train
on Europe’s steepest cable railway and learn all about this iconic mine’s 16 underground levels
where the world-class slate was produced by local men and children,
who risked their lives everyday to provide the world with this famous slate.

Ty Coch Inn

The Ty Coch Inn is arguably the best pub in Wales and officially in the top ten beach bars in the world.
It is situated in the village of Porthdinllaen near Morfa Nefyn, Gwynedd,
on the north coast of the Lleyn peninsular with views across the Irish Sea to The Rivals
and a sandy beach on its doorstep what better way to while away the hours.

Bingo & Quiz games

Stefan our Chairperson organised a Grand Bingo night and Quiz games also some fun game by Stephen Robinson.

The evenings
During the evening we gather in groups to socialise
with drinks, laughs and share our day.

Our next 2023 Annual Holiday will be held in Scotland.
