Great River Ouse
Set in a tranquil and attractive the campsite overlooking the most beautiful section
of the Great River Ouse between Huntingdon and Godmanchester.

Godmanchester
Godmanchester is a town and civil parish in the Huntingdonshire district of Cambridgeshire.
It is separated from Huntingdon, 1.2 miles to the north, by the valley of the River Great Ouse.
Being on the Roman road network, the town has a long history.

Huntingdon
Huntingdon is a market town, was given its town charter by King John in 1205.
It was the county town of the historic county of Huntingdonshire.
Oliver Cromwell was born there in 1599 and became one of its Members of Parliament in 1628.

Hire Boat from the campsite
Whether you want to head out for a couple of hours or for a full day on the river.
You will be shown the basics of how to drive and then off you go.
It’s as simple as that – Remember that in peak season they do get booked up quickly
but you can book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Whether you prefer a short walk into Huntingdon
to the shops or bars and restaurants or prefer something a bit more ambitious
such as heading downstream to Houghton Mill, the oldest working mill
on the river Great Ouse there is something to suit all activity levels.
l

Walk from the Boathaven to Godmanchester, past Godmanchester Lock
around the Meadow and back is nearly 4 miles of easy walking to suit all capabilities.

Facilities
Shower block has facilities available for all.
Gents Bathrooms & showers with shaver points.
Ladies Shower room with hairdryers.
Disabled & Family friendly bathrooms.
Outdoor sink and indoor washing & drying areas.
Chemical disposal point is available at the back of the toilet block.
BBQ’s are welcome but must be kept off the ground to avoid killing the grass.
CCTV cameras are in operation on site for your security.

The nearest pub
The Black Bull at Godmanchester offers a unique dining experience in the relaxed surroundings of an English country pub.
(Only 4 minutes to walk / 0.3 miles from our campsite.)

Food & Drink
If you wish to have a quick bite to eat or a more serious meal around there is a venue to suit you within a few minutes walk of Huntingdon Boathaven.
A short walk into Godmanchester will take you to the local Indian or Chinese restaurants, as well as a number of Pubs, Cafe’s and Fish & Chip shop.

Godmanchester (Under 10 minutes walk)
The Porch Museum, formerly known as the Godmanchester Museum,
has a large number of Roman and Iron Age artefacts and a fascinating collection of old photographs.

Huntingdon (Under 15 minutes walk)
The Cromwell Museum is home to the best collection of items relating to the life and times of Oliver Cromwell
on public display anywhere in the world, and there are indications of a Roman villa at Huntingdon,
that a Saxon town existed here as early as 650 AD.
